Somerset County 4-H is proud to congratulate the recipients of the Community Service award. In order to be eligible, youth members must identify community needs and develop activities to become involved in community issues, as well as develop a sense of belonging and give back to their community.

Madeline Dietrich

Madeline Dietrich is an extremely compassionate, helpful, dedicated and organized person.  She volunteers at many Somerset County events, and usually in several capacities. At the Carnival she might be handing out prizes with Clover Ensemble one minute and then running the fishing game at the Herpetology booth the next. She sorts through boxes of junk at the Rummage Sale, helps out at TOPS Camp, sings at festival of trees, and decorates wreaths.  And all the while she encourages other 4Hers to do the same.

Oliver Matta

When Oliver Matta joined 4H he embraced it.  He loves participating in any way he can. That includes helping out at the Rummage Sale, the Carnival, numerous ways the 4H fair, decorating wreaths and donating to every community service project that we collect for. I have no doubt he also volunteers outside our own club. Oliver is very conscious that every small thing we can do help each other is worthwhile.

Dale Brochinsky

In the height of the pandemic, Dale organized 5 clubs to write letters to residents shuttered in a local assisted living facility. He contacted the facility and developed a plan to keep the letters isolated for a period of time to decontaminate them. He then arranged for the letters to be sent to him so that he could print them out to minimize their exposure. After keeping the letters for a proscribed period of time, he carefully delivered them to the facility himself to keep them less exposed.
